"Excellent DVD - really makes an impact."
- Theresa McCabe, Iowa Workforce Development
"The
DVD is a great resource to use if we could not meet
in person. We wanted an interactive tool to educate
students and keep them engaged. Great information."
- Amy Alex, Career Specialist, Kent State University
“Great for discussion”
- Terry Clevenger, M.A./LPC
Career Counselor/JLD Coordinator, Wichita State University
"We needed workshop materials for interviewing.
We expected a thorough presentation and that is what
we got. (Most effective features are) thoroughness,
the virtual job interview, humor."
- Sarah J. Gospel, Academic Advisor, Northeastern Junior
College
"Higher
ed continues to struggle with budgetary constraints
and staffing issues - this allows us to provide a temporary
solution to all those people that would like to schedule
a real mock interview but are not able to due to schedule
conflicts or reduced staffing. It is very eye catching,
current, and the right price."
- Carla Owens, Assistant Director, Kent State U.
We had an old video that needed updating and this looked
like a good alternative. (Our expectations were) that
it would cover the information we would cover if we
were to make one. We think this is a great alternative
to doing our own!!!!!!
- Ingrid Peterson, Assistant Director for Career Development
Saint Michael's College
I
commend you on development of this DVD! I like the concept
of an interactive tool. And, I think the video presents
good information on interviewing.
- Jan Mead, Assistant Director, Wichita State University

I
thought it was very impressive and informative. I liked
the way it was presented - very easy to watch. I thought
the virtual interview was great because it engaged me
and truly made me think about what I would say. It was
also very user-friendly.
Tailoring your resume was definitely something new I
learned from the video.
Overall, I give it two thumbs up. Well done!
I definitely learned a lot!

- Innovative DVD Engages Students in Interview Prep
-
Meeting the needs of career centers who have limited
human resources and dwindling funds requires creative
thinking. Willing to face this challenge head on, the
Career Counselor at Raritan Valley Community College
in New Jersey entered the realm of video production.
The Virtual Job Interview: Practice & Preparation
for Getting the Job You Deserve “provides career
centers with a solution to the volume of students who
need mock interviewing assistance; it offers a portable
delivery system that also addresses multiple learning
styles, explains Carrie Rafanello-Bazar.”
Covering the gamut of interviewing strategies, commonly
asked questions, and tips, the video “is a simulation
of a conversation between a job candidate and an interviewer,”
says media specialist and co-producer Daniel Peters.”
“The user is asked a typical question by an interviewer
in a video clip and is given a choice of responses.”
What sets this tool apart: “Once a selection is
made, another video clip of the interviewer responds,”
says Peters. “A wide range of questions and answers
is explored until the user is either hired, put on file,
or has his or her application torn up on the spot!”

"Highly Recommended for public and academic libraries."
Organized into four modules, this DVD offers potential job applicants essential steps to follow in making that critical first impression. Addressing résumé components and actions to consider such as proper attire and researching the company, the video also teaches viewers to watch for behavior cues. Tips such as how to handle illegal questions tactfully and recommended post-interview procedures are also included. A "virtual interview" offers simulated practice sessions with an interviewer who poses likely questions, with multiple choices of bad, good, and better answers supplied, along with the appropriate outcomes to each answer. Concise, clear instructions contribute to the outstanding usefulness of this professional-quality production. Marianne Eimer, SUNY at Fredonia Lib.

"Recommended."
The interactive segment with Mr. Aitchar, the HR supervisor, asks questions
and presents viewers with four possible answers. The interview questions themselves are fairly standard ("What do you consider your weaknesses to be?", "How would you handle stress on the job?", "Why should we hire you?," and so on) but the right answers are not always easy to determine. If you select the right answer, Mr. Aitchar grins and gives you a verbal high five; answer wrong, and he grimaces with displeasure...but he also lets you know how to improve your response. The interactive "virtual" job interview aspect elevates this witty, practical, and effective guide above similarly-themed fare.
